Is this the end of the High Street as we know it?

3 Feb 2009
Online retail sales represents about 10 percent of total sales, so it's highly unlikely to spell the end of the High Street as we know it. However online gift retailers like Bombay Duck, Firebox and The Gifted Penguin can pass on the savings they make on rent, staff and advertising costs to their customers. So the customer stands to benefit by getting quality goods at bargain prices!

But many successful high street shops like Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Next, Tesco, Boots and HMV have huge high street presence, plus a significant online presence too. But don't necessarily pass on any savings.
